High School Roundup: Martins Ferry Hands Beaver Local First Loss; Pilots Sweep Bellaire
MARTINS FERRY — Martins Ferry volleyball improved to 9-4 on the season with a home victory over the previously-undefeated Beaver Local Beavers on Tuesday, winning 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, 25-20.
Giana Chirpas led the Purple Riders in kills with 16, adding three blocks and two service aces.
Maddie Lucas followed with a dozen kills. Lexi Carte had eight kills.
SJ Koller racked up 25 digs as well as three service aces. Olivia Harkness piled up 40 assists to go with an impressive seven service aces.
Pilots Sweep Big Reds
HANNIBAL – River continued its winning ways Tuesday night with a sweep of visiting Bellaire inside the R.L. Potts Memorial Gym. The scores were 25-12, 25-12 and 25-15.
The Pilots were led by Maci Isaly 13 kills, seven assists, a like number of digs and a trio of service aces. Aubrey Fetty added 18 digs while Hallie Hammel charted four kills and 10 digs. Zoey Fox chipped in 15 assists and nine digs.
Shadyside Blows By Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT — The Tigers pulled off a road sweep Tuesday, dispatching the Bulldogs in three sets, 25-13, 25-10, 25-15.
Giovanna Hines tallied nine kills, while Ella Mercer and Aubrey Nippert each had seven. Ali Weatherson dished all 29 of Shadyside’s assists. Ava Mercer finished with five service aces for the Tigers. Ali Weatherson had four.
Tyler Topples South Harrison
LOST CREEK — The Knights made short work of the Hawks on the road Tuesday, sweeping South Harrison 27-25, 25-17, 25-21.
Katie Grimm finished with 20 kills, 16 digs, three blocks and two aces for Tyler, while Kayli West followed with 13 kills, nine digs, two blocks and three aces.
Sloane Wall finished with a dozen digs and three blocks for the Knights. Macie Highley finished with eight kills, 10 digs and six blocks.
Raylynn Heintzman was busy as the Knights’ setter with 30 assists.

Barnesville Sweeps On Road
CAMBRIDGE – The Shamrocks made quick work of the host Bobcats by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-20.
Aiva Leasure charted 15 kills and three assists. Brielle VanHorn added eight kills and Caydence Stephen finished with six.
River Wins Tight One vs. Shadyside
HANNIBAL — The Pilots managed a home victory Monday against Shadyside, winning in five sets, 23-25, 25-17, 24-26, 26-24, 15-13.
Giovanna Hines led Shadyside with a dozen kills, followed by Ella Mercer with 11, Aubrey Nippert with 10, and Addasyn Melanko with nine.
Ali Weatherson totaled 38 assists for the Tigers, while Ava Mercer had 23 digs. Hines and Sophie Boltz each had two blocks.
