High School Roundup: Martins Ferry Sweeps Cambridge; Monarchs Win With Goal In Final Seconds vs. Warriors
MARTINS FERRY – Martins Ferry won for the seventh consecutive time after an 0-2 start as it avenged a season-opening loss to Cambridge Monday night inside the Tolbert Gymnasium.
The Purple Riders (7-2) posted a 25-9, 25-13 and 25-15 sweep of the Bobcats.
Olivia Harkness had 28 assists which gives her 1,000 for her career. She also added a trio of service aces.
Giana Chirpas continued her solid play at the net with 10 kills, one more than Nicole Hammerquist. Maddie Lucas chipped in seven kills and a trio of aces, while SJ Koller had 15 assists and four aces. Gracie Lucas also had three aces.
Caldwell Earns Sweep vs. Shadyside
CALDWELL — The Tigers fell on the road to Caldwell in three tightly-contested sets, 25-22, 25-21, 26-24.
Aubrey Nippert led Shadyside in kills with 10 and in aces with three. Giovanna Hines added nine kills and two blocks.
Ali Weatherson finished with 21 assists and 11 digs.
Ava Mercer led Shadyside in digs with 14, one more than Addasyn Melanko.

John Marshall Wins Late
MOUNDSVILLE — Apollo Miller headed in a goal on a perfect cross from Braydn Ruckman with 21 seconds remaining as the streaking Monarchs won their third straight with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Trinity Christian on Monday at Monarch Stadium.
Trent Burton added the other goal for the Monarchs (5-3) with an assist from Daniel Pena.
Tripp Bonds made eights saves.

Martins Ferry Wins Triangular
RAYLAND – The Purple Riders used medalist Dylan Pielech’s 35 to roll past Buckeye Local and Toronto at Bec-Wood Golf Course on Monday. Hunter Shutler finished with a 37 for Martins Ferry which totalled 155.
Kamden Kinyo paced the Panthers (172) with a 36.
Terry Dear led the Red Knights with a 43.
St. Clairsville Wins Five Matches
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Maverick Malin fired a 34 and Mason Conway was a shot back as the Red Devils carded a 147 at the Belmont Hills Country Club layout. That score was 11 strokes better than runner up Barnesville, which was led by Brady Gallagher’s 36.
Union Local placed third with a 166 as Landon Hanasky and Linc Smith both carded 40s.
Monroe Central’s Caleb Griffith shot 39 to lead the Seminoles (186).
