High School Roundup: St. Clairsville Hand Indian Creek First Loss; Bridgeport Edges Out Shadyside

WINTERSVILLE – St. Clairsville faced missing the Ohio playoffs for the first time since 2016 with a loss at Indian Creek Friday night, but the Red Devils (6-3) pulled off a 28-21 victory in overtime at Robert S. Kettlewell Memorial Stadium to hand the Redskins (8-1) their first loss.

Ollie Muhly scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the extra session for St. Clairsville and Parker Galloway added the point-after. The defense then held Indian Creek on downs.

Muhly ran for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns on nine carries. Sam McLean completed 10 of 17 passes for 105 yards, including a 21-yard TD strike to Niko Jacob. Chase Orum also ran 17 yards for a TD.

St. Clairsville hosts winless Cambridge next Friday while Indian Creek heads out Route 43 to meet rival Edison.

Bridgeport 24, Shadyside 21

SHADYSIDE – The Bulldogs (4-5) defeated the host Tigers (2-7) for the first time since 2010 and only the third time since 1999 with their narrow win at Fleming Field.

Jaki Threet continued his outstanding season with 240 yards rushing and a touchdown, while passing for 85 yards and two more scores. His TD passes went to Brode Brown (68) and Braylon Lewis (47).

Augustus Bettino kicked a 27-yard field goal to get the scoring started for Bridgeport.

Jayden Johnson had three TD runs for Shadyside.

Bridgeport hosts Cameron next Friday while Shadyside travels to Woodsfield to meet Monroe Central.

With the loss, the Tigers’ streak of 20 consecutive years of making the postseason came to an end.

Monroe Central 28, Cameron 6

WOODSFIELD – Cooper Howell accounted for 291 yards of total offense as the Seminoles (4-5) dominated the visiting Dragons (4-2) at Monroe Memorial Park.

Howell completed all but one of his 17 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 146 on 22 carries and two scores as Monroe Central bolted to a 28-0 at the half.

Howell had scoring runs of 1 and 68 yards while connecting with Corbin Farnsworth on a 29-yard scoring strike.

Wyatt Cohen booted all four PATs.

Cameron avoided the shutout when Marshall Holland scored from 3 yards out in the fourth quarter. He finished with 21 carries for 112 yards. Kason Angel was 6 of 13 for 53 yards but suffered three interceptions, including one by Howell.

Ashton Lumbatis charted 11 tackles, one for minus yardage.

AJ Rutter had a TD run.

Wheeling Park 20, Butler (Pa.) 13

BUTLER — The Patriots moved to 5-3 on the season with a close road win in the Quaker State.

Isaac Sands scored a four-yard touchdown run, and scored on a 24-yard jet touch pass from quarterback Jay Bordas. Both scores came in the first half.

Nolan Yanchak rumbled in a three-yard touchdown in the third quarter to put Park ahead 20-7 at the time.

Butler’s Nicco Baggetta had two touchdown runs for the Golden Tornado.

Wheeling Park remains on the road next week at Steubenville.
