High School Roundup: St. Clairsville’s Olivia Baker Tops Field At District Tournament

OLIVIA BAKER
CAMBRIDGE — St. Clairsville senior Olivia Baker stood atop the field Wednesday in the Ohio Division II East District Girls Tournament at Cambridge Country Club, finishing in first place amidst 47 total competitors.
Baker finished right at Par, shooting a 72, and an even 36 on the front nine and 36 on the back nine.
With her gold finish, Baker qualifies for the Ohio Division II State Girls Tournament, taking place October 6 and 7 at Heatherwoode Golf Course in Springboro, Ohio. Baker has made it to state competition multiple times in her career, which also includes two OVAC medalist finishes, and a medalist finish at sectionals last week.
Baker was the only golfer representing St. Clairsville on Wednesday. Ridgeway took first place as a team, qualifying as a team for states.
Garaway finished second and Fort Frye finished third.
Barnesville’s Kennedy Little competed and shot a 90. Frontier’s Miley Kiggans carded a 93. Union Local’s Olivia Poziviak finished at a 98. River’s Presley Kilburn shot a 108.

River Wins Over Crusaders
HANNIBAL — The Pilots defended homecourt against Steubenville Catholic in a homestand sweep, 25-22, 25-11, 25-12.
Mallarie Maddie led River with 19 kills, and cashed in on three service aces. Hallie Hammel followed with 10 kills.
Maci Isaly was the assist woman, piling up 34 as River’s chief setter.
Aubrey Fetty led River with 10 digs. Maci Isaly had four service aces, most on the team.

Wheeling Central Dominates vs. Tyler
SISTERSVILLE — The Maroon Knights piled on the goals Wednesday against the Knights, winning 12-0 on the road.
Among the various goals had by Wheeling Central, each of Loni Kusic, Maddie Kirchner and Kayleigh Whittington recorded a brace with two goals each. Elah Konkle, Monti Smith, Rylee Wright, Sara Zende, Seneca Heller and Elizabeth Steele also all scored.
Elah Konkle finished with four assists.

Barnesville Sweeps Huskies
BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks got the better of visiting Harrison Central on Tuesday, sweeping the Huskies 25-19, 25-10, 25-11.
Aiva Leasure blasted 15 kills for Barnesville, and had 11 digs, both team-highs.
Londyn Gibson had 21 assists for the Shamrocks, and also finished with five service aces.
Leah Grady had 11 digs for Harrison Central. Ava Conley and Hannah Grady each had three kills, tied for their team-high.
