John Marshall Finishes Atop Field At Northern Panhandle Invitational

WHEELING — As the 2025-26 swim season continues picking up steam, eight local schools took another stride towards midseason form on Wednesday in the 2025 Northern Panhandle Invitational, held inside the Alma Grace McDonough Center on Wheeling University’s campus.
The John Marshall Monarchs took first place in both the girls and boys team rankings, while Wheeling Park had a silver finish in both rankings. John Marshall’s girls totaled 91 points, followed by Wheeling Park at 76 and Brooke at 63. John Marshall’s boys totaled 97 points, followed by Wheeling Park at 86 and University and Brooke, both tied at 35.
In relay action on the day, Wheeling Park and John Marshall picked up the majority of the victories. Wheeling Park’s girls won the 200-yard medley relay, John Marshall’s girls won the 200-yard freestyle relay, and Brooke’s girls won the 400-yard freestyle relay.
John Marshall’s boys won both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay, and Wheeling Park’s boys won the 400-yard freestyle relay.
There were six double-event winners in individual races Wednesday.

Wheeling Central’s Alex Mihalovich won both the boys 200 individual medley (2:13.30) and 500 freestyle (5:14.60). Brooke’s Faith Farrell won both the girls 50 freestyle (27.24) and 100 freestyle (1:01.10). Wheeling Park’s Brady Bowie won both the boys 100 butterfly (1:00.71) and 50 freestyle (24.22). Teammate Molly George won both the girls 100 butterfly (1:09.68) and 100 backstroke (1:05.18). John Marshall’s Wyatt Jefferson won both the boys 100 breaststroke (1:05.58) and 100 freestyle (53.76).
Brooke’s Kiersten Harvath claimed first place in the girls 200 freestyle (2:12.73). John Marshall’s Dalton Brown won the boys 200 freestyle (2:04.46), and the Monarchs’ Evan Harrison won the boys 100 backstroke (1:05.27). Wheeling Park’s Eliana McCabe took the gold in the girls 100 breaststroke (1:26.88), and teammate Luana Fernandez won the girls 200 individual medley (2:33.64).
