Linsly Sweeps Swim Meet; Central’s Manning Sets Record

WHEELING – Linsly opened the high school swimming season with a pair of victories each over Oak Glen and Wheeling Central Thursday night.

The Cadets defeated the Golden Bears 102-39 and swam past the Maroon Knights 106-33 in boys’ action. Oak Glen defeated Wheeling Central 52-42. On the girls’ side, the Cadets topped the Golden Bears 112-15 and the Maroon Knights 103-33. Wheeling Central prevailed over Oak Glen 50-27.

BOYS

Double winners for Linsly were Sebastian Jayakumar who won the 200 IM (2:20.93) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:09.97) and Jalen Wong who captured the 100 Butterfly (1:12.05) and the 100 Free (1:01.45). The Cadets also won a pair of relays.

Wheeling Central’s Alex Mihalovich 200 Free (1:57.61) and the 500 free (5:18.80).

Oak Glen’s Samuel Jenkins won the 50 Free (26.29) and the Golden Bears also claimed the 200 Freestyle Relay.

GIRLS

Cassie Merinar and Adriana Lopez Alonzo were the double winners for Linsly as Merinar won the 200 Free (2:01.20) and the 500 Free (6:07.66). Alonzo finished first in the 200 IM (2:32.29) and the 100 Backstroke (1:13.33).

The Cadets also won a trio of relays.

Wheeling Central’s Ellie Manning claimed the 50 Free (28.20) and set a new school record on the 100 Butterfly (1:09.56).
