Wheeling Park Alum Alexis Bordas Honored As Atlantic 10 Rookie Of The Week After Impressive First Three Games
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following an outstanding opening week of college hoops, freshman guard Alexis Bordas of the Duquesne women’s basketball team was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Bordas played a pivotal role in guiding the Dukes to a 3-0 start, the team’s best opening week since the 2022-23 season.
She was one of five Dukes to reach double figures in an 89-60 season-opening win over Saint Francis and then helped Duquesne post the second-highest point total in program history with a 108-53 victory over Slippery Rock on Thursday. Bordas capped the week by leading the Dukes to a 72-64 road win at Western Michigan on Sunday.
The Wheeling native got off to an impressive start in her collegiate career, averaging 15.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 1.0 assist per game. In her first collegiate start, she tallied 11 points, a team-high four steals, three rebounds, and an assist in the win over the Red Flash.
She followed that with 11 points, three rebounds, and two steals, including three three-pointers in the victory over The Rock. The freshman saved her best performance for last, posting a season-high 24 points on .430 percent shooting (9-of-21) while hitting five three-pointers in the win over the Broncos.
She also added four rebounds, three steals, and two assists in the outing.
Bordas earns the honor for the first time in her career and becomes just the second Duke in the last five years to earn the achievement.
