Bridgeport Seeking Head Football Coach

BRIDGEPORT – Bridgeport High School is in the market for a new head football coach.

Andrew Yahn, who just finished his second year with the Bulldogs, did not have his one-year supplemental contract renewed by the district, according to Superintendent Brent Ripley.

Yahn was 7-14 as Bridgeport’s head coach. His 2024 team went 3-8, but qualified for the Division VII playoffs as the No. 16 seed before falling at No. 1 Danville, 54-0. Last fall, the Bulldogs went 4-6 but failed to make the playoffs when the field was narrowed from 16 teams to 12.

“The decision to not renew Mr. Yahn came from the recommendation of Mr. Jack Fisher, high school principal, who shared his recommendation with me. One that I am in full support of,” Ripley said in an email Tuesday afternoon. “Supplemental contracts expire yearly for all that serve in these positions. Each year, the district posts internally and then externally supplemental positions for qualified candidates to apply.

“On Monday, all fall supplemental positions for the 2026-2027 school year were posted internally,” Ripley added. “We will move forward purposefully and swiftly in finding the best long-term candidate for our football program, as well as the best candidates for our other posted fall supplemental positions.”

Ripley praised the job that Yahn performed.

“Coach Yahn is a very good and hardworking man, and we are grateful for the two years that Mr. Yahn has led our football program,” he said. “We wish him the very best as he moves forward.”

According to Ripley, the district is moving forward in building Bridgeport to days it has never seen.

“This applies full-scale, from athletics, to our arts programs, to education, workforce, career training and health and wellness and mental health support for our students,” he continued. “Our best days are ahead of us as a district.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
