High School Roundup: John Marshall Boys Open With Victory

MOUNDSVILLE – Jackson Helms scored 23 points as debuting John Marshall defeated visiting Magnolia, 80-51, inside the John Marshall Field House in boys’ basketball action.

Preston Watkins added 17 and Sincere Saunders-Paige chipped in 15 for the Monarchs. Landon Snyder also netted 15.

Kingston Christien led all scorers with 30 for the Blue Eagles. Noah Hood finished with 11.

Bridgeport 64, Steubenville Catholic 59

BRIDGEPORT – The Bulldogs (3-0) led by two points after three quarters, but outscored the visiting Crusaders 17-14 in the fourth quarter on Frank Baxter Court inside John J. Havlicek Gymnasium.

Jaleel Vincent netted 27 points and Jaki Threet added 13.

Rahim Mitchell scored 23 for Steubenville Catholic. Kolbe Krupp added 19 and Michael Fabbro 11.

River 61, Cameron 26

CAMERON — The Pilots flew higher than the Dragons on Tuesday, a torrid first half blasting River off to a big road win.

The Pilots led 17-2 after the first quarter, and 46-10 at the half.

Evan Longwell scored 25 points to lead River, 23 coming in the first half. Kaden Hunt added a dozen and Crestyn Isaly scored nine.

Colin Magers led Cameron with eight points.

Brooke 59, Harrison Central 53

WELLSBURG — The Brooke Bruins are 1-0 in the new season after a hard-fought home victory over the Huskies on Tuesday.

Crosby Morris scored 18 points to lead Brooke. Grant Yost scored 13 points with nine rebounds, and Andrew Murdock scored 13 points with four assists. Ty Sperringer scored eight and Pete Fodor scored seven.

CALDWELL – The host Redskins outscored the Pilots 30-4 in the middle two quarters in their win.

Carleigh Trifonoff led River with 13 points.
