Linsly’s Humphrey Reaches Podium At Powerade Event

CANONSBURG, Pa. – Linsly’s Brock Humphrey placed sixth at 114 pounds in the prestigious Powerade wrestling tournament at Canon-MacMillan High School.

Seeded fourth, the Cadets sophomore, who won the OVAC Ron Mauck 106-pound title last winter, advanced to the championship semifinals before falling to Grove City’s Chase Karenbauer, 1-0. He had defeated Shiloh Joyce of Christian Brothers Academy in N.J.14-6 in the Round of 16 and slipped past Liam McGettigan of Lake Highland Prep in Florida, 5-4, in an ultimate tiebreaker.

He then lost to Joyce, 2-1 in the 8th round of consolations and dropped a 13-1 major decision to Trinity Camp Hill’s Chase Smith in the 5th-place match.

BASKETBALL

Harrison Central 52, Buckeye Local 19

CONNORVILLE – Mikayla Pelegreen tallied 12 points as the Huskies picked up a road win against the host Panthers.

Kelsey Powers added seven markers for the winners who had 10 different players score at least two points.

Emma Vitek led Buckeye Local with eight points, one more than Brooke Driscoll.

SHADYSIDE – The Purple Riders defeated the host Tigers.

Harrison Central 45, Steubenville Catholic 38

STEUBENVILLE – The Harrison Central boys’ basketball team ran out to an early lead against Catholic Central before the Crusaders stormed back in the second half.

The Huskies led by 14 points at halftime, however, the Blue-and-Gold closed to within three points with under three minutes left to play, however, the hosts were unable to draw any closer as the visitors hit a basket and drained a pair of foul shot as Harrison Central held on for a victory Tuesday night inside the Mickey Barber Gymnasium.

Bryson Kamarec recorded a team-high 21 points to lead the way offensively for Harrison Central, while Brady Hyre tallied 10.

Rahim Mitchell collected a team-high 21 points to lead the way for the Crusaders, while Kolbe Krupp produced nine.

The Crusaders battled down to the final whistle, but they just could not get a shot to drop as the final seconds ticked off the clock.

Catholic Central is scheduled to play River Friday night at home. Harrison Central is slated to play Brooke Saturday at home.

The JV game will start at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity game to follow around 6 p.m.
