High School Roundup: Buckeye Local Defense Shines vs. Toronto; Monroe Central Stumps Shamrocks
TORONTO – Buckeye Local saw their 18-point lead in the third quarter whittled down to six in the fourth, however, in crunch time, the Panthers were able to stymie Toronto with their 2-3 zone as the girls from the Gem City went nine-straight offensive possessions without a point enabling Buckeye Local to hold on for a 40-36 win in a varsity-only game Thursday night inside the George J. Kunzler Memorial Gymnasium.
Sammi Westfall tallied a game-high 17 points to lead the way offensively for Buckeye Local, while Brooke Driscoll collected nine.
Josey Dickinson delivered a team-high 14 points to lead the way for Toronto, while Jaya Reeves recorded 13.
The win snapped Buckeye Local’s seven-game losing streak.
The win enabled the Panthers to even the season series as Toronto defeated Buckeye Local, 52-28, Nov. 26 on the road down on Kara Bright Court.
Monroe Central 54, Barnesville 19
WOODSFIELD — The Seminoles got off to a hot start and never cooled off Thursday against the Shamrocks.
Miley Bommer led Monroe Central with 15 points, followed by Brylee McFrederick with 12. Jacey English had seven points and six steals.
Lydia Welch scored a team-high 10 points for Barnesville.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Bruins earned a win Thursday over the Monarchs in a boys-only bowling match.
Brooke’s Alex Obeldobel rolled a 213 and a 183 for a 396 series. Jason Beliveau rolled a 171, Tye Lallone rolled a 161 and a 160 for a 321 series, and Brady Yost rolled a 167.
John Marshall’s Willis Vessels rolled a 149 and a 140 for a 289 series, tops for the Monarchs.
