PREP ROUNDUP: Monroe Central Girls Knock Union Local From Ranks of the Undefeated

WOODSFIELD — Monroe Central knocked off unbeaten Union Local (12-1) Saturday afternoon 53-51 in girls’ basketball action on Junior Winland Court.
The Seminoles (10-3) trailed 37-32 after three quarters but outscored the visiting Jets 21-14 in the final eight minutes as Miley Bommer scored half of her team-high 14 points. Brylee McFrederick chipped in five of her 12 in the period.
Mayzie Emery tallied 11 for Monroe Central, which also received seven rebounds from Bommer. Jayce English charted seven steals and four assists.
Laken Vinskovich led Union Local with 14 points, two more than Ameera Saunders.
Wheeling Central 63, Grafton 43
WHEELING — Seneca Heller poured in 25 points and Bella Fitzsimmons and Erin Maxwell each netted 16 as the Maroon Knights roared past the visiting Bearcats.
Martins Ferry 77, Weir 19
WEIRTON — The visiting Purple Riders bol;tedf to a 30-2 lead after one quarter and coasted from there in routing the Red Riders.
SJ Koller led Martins Ferry with 17 points, while London Hodor added 16. Giana Chirpas contributed 14 points, one more than Kassiah Fleming.
St. Clairsville 52, Madonna 37
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Red Devils made it three wins in four games with a victory over visiting Madonna Saturday in girls’ basketball action on John Jenkins Court.
Anna Kain and Elizabeth Morgan scored 17 points each to pace the Red Devils.
Sophie Brady had 10 points for the Blue Dons.
Shadyside 47, Frontier 42
SHADYSIDE — Trailing 35-34 after three quarters Saturday, the host Tigers outscored the Cougars 13-7 to pull out the huge OVAC bonus points victory.
Kaci Tsoras led two players in double figures with 21 points. Cam Kolvek added 10, including a 5-for-6 performance from the foul line.

Shadyside 70, Bellaire 56
SHADYSIDE — Wyatt Parr scored 27 points and Michael Hendershot added 18 as the Tigers defeated the visiting Big Reds.
Jace Violet led Bellaire with 26.
Grafton 67, John Marshall 47
MOUNDSVILLE — The visiting Bearcats sent the Monarchs to an 0-2 weekend with a 20-point victory.
Preston Watkins had 15 points to lead JM. Jackson Helms added a dozen.

Monroe Central Girls Roll To Victory
WOODSFIELD — Shannon Shepherd rolled a 125 game and a 225 series as the Seminoles topped East Richland Christian 958 to 707.
Kimberly Larsen had a 106 game and 179 series for the Lions.

Linsly Sweeps Warren Local
WHEELING — The Cadets earned victories over the Warriors 115-41 in girls and 98-54 in boys. For the girls, Cassie Merinar won the 200 Freestyle in 2:13.63 and the 500 Freestyle in 5:57.72 as the lone double winner for the hosts.

Wheeling Park’s Sands Takes First
FAIRMONT — The Patriots’ Isaac Sands (165) won an individual title over the weekend at the Clayton Homes Winners Choice Invitational at the Armory.
The No. 3 seed posted a 10-2 decision over top-seeded Dalton Matney of Johnson Central, Ky.
Six Locals Capture Titles at Par-Mar Alumni Tournament
ST. MARYS — Six individuals claimed titles in their respective weight classes Saturday during the 13th annual Par Mar Stores Alumni Tournament.
Three of those were from Cameron as Maverick Lilley (106), Marshall Crow (150) and Eli Tedrow (165) all stood atop the awards podium.
Wheeling Central had a pair of champions in Tylique Marshall (113) and Dom Paesani (285), while Weir’s Ben Bryan (190) also prevailed.
