High School Roundup: Barnesville, UL, Harrison Boys Advance In Bowling
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Barnesville, Union Local and Harrison Central all punched their tickets to the Ohio Division II Boys District Bowling Tournament by placing in the top six at Tuesday’s Sectional Tournament at St. Clair Lanes.
The Shamrocks won the team title with a score of 3,932, which was 157 pins better than the Jets (3,775). The Huskies came in fourth at 3,487.
Barnesville senior Keegan Martin was the top finisher with a three-game total of 660. He had games of 192, 255 and 213. He was followed by juniors Cole Eddy (601), Bo Detling (555), Jacob Whitacre (535) and senior Colton Hall (533).
Leading Union Local was freshman Leevi Kutcher who placed second with a 638 (221, 233, 184). He was joined by juniors Jeff Bolon (618), Nate Barbe (561) and Grady Figel (524).
The Huskies were paced by freshman Owen Whitacre (534) and sophomores Wyatt Durbin (530) and Aaden Albaugh (512).
Also qualifying as individuals were Buckeye Local sophomore Michael Kovalski (590) and St. Clairsville junior Brenden Thoburn (585).
The district is set for Feb. 19 at Legacy Lanes in Coshocton.
BOYS BASKETBALL
OVAC Semifinals
Cambridge 59, Union Local 47
CAMBRIDGE — The top-seeded Bobcats shot the lights out Tuesday in a OVAC 4A semifinal win over Union Local, making 10 3-pointers in the victory.
Garrett Carpenter made three 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 22 for Cambridge. Cam Lauer made three 3’s as well to finish with 15.
Brody Kerns scored 16 points to lead Union Local, grabbing 12 rebounds to finish with yet another double-double.
Brody Gregor scored nine and Jacob Stroud scored eight.
Beaver Local 63, St. Clairsville 58, OT
LISBON – The No. 3 Red Devils fell to the second-seeded Beavers in overtime.
Monroe Central 80, Columbiana 48
COLUMBIANA – Corbin Farnsworth scored 30 points and three other Seminoles reached double digits as they knocked off the No. 2 Clippers.
Caedyn Silva added 13 points, while Blake Yontz had 11 and Hunter Habig 10.
Caldwell 72, Bridgeport 52
CALDWELL — No. 2 Caldwell advanced to the OVAC 2A Championship with a Tuesday semifinal victory over the visiting Bulldogs.
Dylon Schott poured in 33 points for Caldwell to lead all scorers. Schott made four 3-pointers as his team made nine total.
Bridgeport was led by Jaleel Vincent, who scored 16, and Will Drake, who was close behind with 14.
The Bulldogs trailed 33-20 at halftime.
OVAC Consolation Games
Fort Frye 44, Magnolia 42
NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Cadets netted a two-point victory on the road Tuesday over the Blue Eagles.
Kingston Christen scored a game-high 26 for Magnolia, including 10 in the fourth quarter. Magnolia trailed 36-32 entering the fourth.
The Blue Eagles led 14-7 after the first quarter and 23-21 at halftime. Noah Hood joined Christen in double figures with 12 points.
Steubenville Catholic 56, Shadyside 53
SHADYSIDE – Michael Hendershot led the Tigers with 13 points. Bryce Sloan added 10.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
St. Clairsville 62, Toronto 57, OT
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Elizabeth Morgan scored a career-high 33 points as the Red Devils outlasted the Red Knights on John Jenkins Court.
Anna Kain added 12 for St. Clairsville.
Josie Dickinson netted 21 points for Toronto, three more than Jayna Reeves.
