MARTINS FERRY — The Martins Ferry Purple Riders girls basketball squad held on for a 52-48 win over the Fort Frye Cadets on Thursday in the OVAC 3A Third Place Game inside Tolbert Gymnasium.

Giana Chirpas and Maddie Lucas each scored 18 points for the Purple Riders, who led 44-30 going into the fourth quarter and 35-14 at halftime.

Ella Dowler made six 3-pointers for the Cadets and scored a game-high 20 points. All of her points came in the second half.

Union Local 59, Edison 36

MORRISTOWN — The Jets prevailed in Thursday’s OVAC 4A Third Place Game, with senior Laken Vinskovich pouring in 31 points to help Union Local top the Wildcats.

Vinskovich scored 29 in the first three quarters. The Jets led 32-19 at halftime.

Myah Martin scored 13 for the Jets, making three 3-pointers.

Cameron 51, Notre Dame 24

CLARKSBURG — The Dragons showed no signs of fatigue in the second half of a back-to-back Thursday against the Irish.

Cameron received 17 points from Kendra Thomas, including 11 in a hot-shooting first quarter that saw Cameron take a quick 21-4 lead.

Emma Francis scored nine and Edie Hartley scored eight for the Dragons.

Piper Fryer led Notre Dame with 10 points.
