High School Roundup: Seminoles, Pilots Advance In Girls Basketball Sectionals

WOODSFIELD – Monroe Central bolted to a 20-4 advantage after one quarter Wednesday night in rolling past visiting Bellaire, 54-24, on Junior Winland Court in Ohio Division VI girls’ basketball sectional tournament action.

The second-seeded Seminoles (18-5) led 38-11 at the half and cruised in the second 16 minutes as the No. 5 Big Reds could only manage six field goals.

Jadyn Miller led Monroe Central with 13 points, two more than Jacey English. Brylee McFredefick finished with nine.

English also grabbed nine rebounds while McFrederick added six. Mayzie Emery charted five assists and four steals.

Kayla Edgar and Aubree Hines each scored seven points for Bellaire.

Monroe Central remains at home Saturday when No. 8 Buckeye Trail visits at 1 p.m.

Division VII

River 46, Tuscarawas CC 36

HANNIBAL – Carleigh Trifonoff netted half of the third-seeded Pilots point total as they eliminated the visiting No. 9 Saints inside the R.L. Potts Gymnasium. She had six triples, including four in the third quarter.

Ava Wohnhas added 11 points and Zoey Fox had 10.

River held a 19-11 advantage at the half and led 34-24 after three quarters.

The Pilots remain home Saturday when No. 4 Frontier makes the journey north on Ohio 7 for a 1 p.m. tip.

Wheeling Central 81, Tyler Consolidated 37

KIDWELL – Haley Severns and Bella Fitzsimmons each scored 15 points as the Maroon Knights improved to 15-5 with their rout of the host Silver Knights.

Addie Payton and Erin Maxwell had nine each.
