PREP ROUNDUP: Barnesville Wrestlers Finish Third in Ohio Division III State Duals

MARION, Ohio — Barnesville placed third at the Ohio High School Wrestling Association Division III State Duals Saturday at Marion Elgin High School.

The No. 4 Shamrocks defeated fifth-seeded Delta, 35-34, in their quarterfinal match before dropping a 50-18 decision to top-seeded and eventual champion Waynedale in the semifinals. Barnesville bounced back to top Lake Catholic, 39-36, in the third-place match.

Half-a-dozen Shamrocks went 2-1 on the day, led by junior Christien Hannahs (215) with a pair of pins. It was his fall in 3:40 against Delta that provided the winning margin.

Classmate Colt Carpenter (144/150) earned a pin and decision, while freshman Jaxon Aberegg (120) posted a pin and decision. Senior Hines Ford (175) won by pin and was awarded a forfeit, as did freshman Hoyt Hartshorn (113). Junior Easton Stephen (106) won by decision and was also awarded a forfeit.

John Marshall Sweeps Quad

NEW CUMBERLAND — John Marshall took on all comers and came out victorious Saturday in a quad match against Weir and Brooke at Oak Glen High School

John Marshall head coach Ryan Asbury, an Oak Glen graduate, earned his 100th career duel-meet victory at John Marshall in the gym of his old alma mater. The Monarchs were able to achieve a 3-0 record, recording wins over Oak Glen (51-24), Weir (51-29), and Brooke (53-29).

Sophomores Nathan Hughes and Clayton Dugas and freshman Milo Ward all compiled 3-0 records on the day.

The Monarchs start their postseason competition next weekend at the Division 1 Region 1 Tournament at Wheeling Park High School. The Monarchs enter the postseason ranked #8 in Division 1, which consists of both AAA and AAAA teams.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Magnolia 56, Valley 34

PINE GROVE — The Blue Eagles pulled away in the second half to secure a road victory over the Lumberjills.

Three scored in double figures for Magnolia, led by Kaylee Yost’s 15 points. Audri Quinn scored 12 and Bella Sockman put up 11.

The Blue Eagles led 24-18 at halftime but picked up their play on both ends to extend their lead down the homestretch.

Valley’s Laken Dawson scored a game-high 19 for the homestanding Lumberjills.
