High School Roundup: Wheeling Park Falls To Mohigans; Magnolia Defeats Valley

WHEELING — The Wheeling Park Patriots took a close 4-3 defeat to visiting Morgantown on Thursday.

Morgantown started off the game with three runs in the top of the first, and while Wheeling Park had tied the game 3-3 through four innings, the Mohigans tacked on one more in the top of the fifth on a RBI triple by Grace Robinson to take a permanent lead.

Leadoff hitter Abby ODonnell hit a double and Mikaylah Alderman hit a triple for Park. Alderman’s fourth-inning three-bagger tied the game 3-3 for the Patriots. Kylah Cunningham knocked in two for Park.

Harmony Bittner pitched the complete game for the Patriots, allowing five hits while walking a pair and striking out three.

Madison Wisman hit a three-run home run in the first inning and pitched the complete game for Morgantown, striking out 16.

Magnolia 4, Valley 3

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Blue Eagles narrowly defended their homefield on Thursday against the Lumberjills. Magnolia plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a come-from-behind win.

Bella Sockman totaled three hits and drove in a run for Magnolia. Teammate Sidney Knight had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Jessa Anderson tripled for the home team.

Aerie Varner pitched a complete game for the Blue Eagles to pick up the win. She struck out nine.

BASEBALL

South Harrison 4, Tyler Consolidated 2, 8 inn.

KIDWELL – The Silver Knights dropped a mutual season-opener to the visiting Hawks.

Heath Mason singled in one of Tyler Consolidated’s runs.

South Harrison scored once in the seventh to tie the game and added two in the eighth for the win.
