OVAC, MAC All Stars Meet In Wrestling At Brooke H.S.

WELLSBURG – The 29th annual OVAC-MAC “Tri-State Clash of Champions” All-Star wrestling match will take place Tuesday night inside the Brooke County Wellness Center at Brooke High School. Action begins at 6.
The OVAC holds a 19-9 all-time advantage in the series and will be seeking a three-peat after a 40-18 victory in 2024 and a thrilling, 31-25, come-from-behind nod last year at Montour High School in McKees Rocks, Pa. The last time the Keystone State stars won in 2023 it had three future NCAA Division I recruits.
The event features top senior wrestlers from Ohio Valley Athletic Conference schools against Pennsylvania’s Midwestern Athletic Conference. It was a jointly conceived effort by former East Liverpool wrestling coach, Nick Trombetta, and Ed Driscoll, head wrestling coach of Quigley Catholic High School.
For the first time, however, a girls match will take place to start the night as Steubenville’s Jahmiah Bey will meet Montour’s Kristen Walzer at 100 pounds. Bey was a state qualifier, finishing her season at 35-14. Walzer, a Pitt-Johnstown recruit, was 24-10 this season and 62-45 for her career.
At 113-Wheeling Central’s Tylique Marshall faces Javeon Chambers of Highland. Marshall placed third in the recent WVSSAC state tournament. Chambers was a PIAA state qualifier. He was 40-10 this year and 151-34 for his career.
At 120-Steubenville’s Cole Harvey, a state qualifier, went 1-2 at the state tournament and finished the season 36-12. He was fourth at the OVAC Ron Mauck. His opponent, Quaker Valley’s Bruce Anderchak was a PIAA sectional champ and finished sixth in the regional. However, he did not place at the state meet. He was 38-7 this year and 157-35 in his career.
At 126-Beaver Local’s Collin Ring placed sixth in the OVAC Ron Mauck Tournament in an underclass-dominated weight class. Avonworth’s Auston Kosanovic was a state qualifier. He was 42-10 this season and 143-42 for his career.
At 132-University’s Collin Gillespie won an OVAC Ron Mauck title but did not place at the state meet. He faces West Allegheny’s AJ Snatchko who was 34-14 this year and compiled a 110-55 career mark.
At 138-Steubenville’s Julius Mullins was an OVAC Ron Mauck runnerup. His opponent, Moon’s Cael Yanek, was a PIAA Class AAA Regional champ, but didn’t place at state. He finished 42-8 this season and won 130-33 for his career.
At 144-Oak Glen’s Wyatt Wolanski finished third in the WVSSAC state tournament. He was also third in the OVAC Ron Mauck. Montour’s Jacob Chacon was a PIAA Class AAA regional champion, but did not place at the state meet. He finished this season 44-7 and was 113-43 for his career.
At 150-Beaver Local’s Bobby Buchheit became just the eighth wrestler in OVAC Ron Mauck Tournament history to win four individual championships. He also became a four-time OHSAA state meet placewinner after placing seventh last weekend. Montour’s Rook Smith was 34-10 this season and 117-38 for his career.
At 157-Gavin Resor, of Cambridge, will face Plum’s Owen Campbell. Resor was fourth in the OVAC Ron Mauck Tournament, while Campbell was a state qualifier with a 38-11 record. His career mark was 132-42.
At 165-Wheeling Park’s Isaac Sands was a WVSSAC state runnerup two weeks ago. He also placed third in the OVAC Ron mauck. Quaker Valley’s Matt Danna is a two-time PIAA state qualifier. He went 46-15 this season and posted a 135-36 career mark.
At 175-Barnesville’s Hines Ford was an OVAC Ron Mauck runner up and became a four-time OHSAA place winner with his fifth-place finish. He finished with more than 150 career victories. North Hills’ Carter Morvay was a PIAA regional qualifier this season after going 41-6. He was 130-44 for his career.
At 190-Malaki Washington, a two-time OVAC champion with Wheeling Park and Linsly, will meet Moon’s Michael Olszewski. Washington won while a sophomore with the Patriots and a senior with the Cadets. He has battled injuries throughout his career. Olszewski, a regional qualifier, was 41-9 this year and 104-36 for his career.
At 215, University’s Ryder Hastings placed third at the OVAC Ron Mauck and second at the WVSSAC state meet. He will face Reynolds’ Colton Tupper, who was fourth in the PIAA state meet after winning the sectional and district titles. He was 47-7 and 104-36 in three years.
At 285-Indian Creek’s Luke McMillion was a Division II state qualifier for the Redskins. He was the OVAC Ron Mauck champion. His opponent, Laurel’s Casey Wilson was a PIAA state qualifier and finished 43-6 this year. He placed sixth in last year’s PIAA state meet and was 121-25 in his career.
A Most Outstanding Wrestler will be selected from each team.
