High School Roundup: John Marshall Bounces Back; St. Clairsville Cruises Over Bruins

MOUNDSVILLE — The John Marshall Monarchs bounced back one day after a loss in the OVAC Conference Tournament with an 8-3 road victory over rival Wheeling Park on Tuesday.

Kayden Knapp pitched six shutout innings to earn the win for John Marshall, striking out four. At the plate, Mason Markonich doubled twice and drove in two, Aidan Clegg also hit a double as part of a two-hit day. Hayden Hughes notched two hits from the leadoff spot.

Dayton VanFossen hit two doubles for Wheeling Park, while Kolten Whitmire also doubled.

John Marshall broke a scoreless tie by scoring six runs in the top of the fifth inning.

St. Clairsville 11, Brooke 1

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Red Devils knocked around the Bruins in a five-inning victory Tuesday.

Jaxon Starks and Roby Hanna each hit a double and a single, driving in two. Niko Jacob doubled and drove in three. Elijah Hill also hit a double. Hudson Florence earned the win on the mound, striking out six in five innings.

Gino Provenzano notched Brooke’s lone RBI.

SOFTBALL

Buckeye Local 3, Union Local 1

MORRISTOWN — Karlie Lander doubled, Addie Jones homered and Buckeye Local prevailed on the road against the Jets.

Lander also picked up the win inside the circle for Buckeye Local, striking out seven in a complete game victory.

Alli Kellaway tacked on Union Local’s lone run via a solo home run. Edyn McGary tripled for hte Jets.

No. 1 Caldwell 8, No. 4 Shadyside 6

WHEELING — Caldwell advanced to Friday’s 2A championship with a hard-fought victory Monday over the Tigers.

Shadyside committed eight errors in the game while Caldwell committed six.

Reese Burkhart led Shadyside’s offense with two RBI.
