Steubenville Boys, Girls Sweep Bellaire Relays

Steubenville’s Colten Henderson cruises to victory in the 100-meter dash Saturday during the 71st annual Bellaire Relays at sun-splashed Nelson Field. He times out in 11.2 seconds.
BELLAIRE – Steubenville flexed its muscles Saturday during the 71st annual Bellaire Relays at sun-splashed Nelson Field.
Big Red won seven of the 17 events in boys portion to rack up 111 points, which easily outdistanced second-place Barnesville (95). On the girls’ side, Big Red had six champions in accumulating 104 points which was 33 better than runnerup Martins Ferry.
BOYS
Steubenville’s Colten Henderson won the 100-meter dash in 11.2 seconds, while Stephen McShan took the 200 in 23.85. Ziare Scurry ran a sizzling 48.06 to claim the 400, while Josiah Rea cruised over the 110 high hurdles in 15.36 and Terahji Thompson won the 300 lows in 41.71.
Rea and Henderson teamed with Trey Wiggins and Landon Crosier to win the 4×100 relay in 44.57. Thompson, Rea, Henderson and Landon Bowers ran 1:32.04 to claim the 4×200. Rea leaped 6-4 to win the high jump.
Union Local’s Connor Bendo was a double winner as he won the 1600 in 4:41.37 and the 1600 in 10:24.52. The Jets’ Jameson Babel hurled the discus 134-05 for a first-place finish.
Barnesville claimed the 4×400 and 4×800 relays as Mason Starr, Ethan Marcum, Brady Powell and Cole Francis ran the 4×4 in 3:41.26, while Starr Joel Detling, Powell and Marcum finished the 4×8 in 8:49.73.
The Shamrocks’ Brayden Trigg went 11-0 to win the pole vault.
Linsly Jakob Schmidt-Weigand ran 1:58.67 to win the 800.
Bellaire’s Kayse Rejonis putted the shot 51-2 and Edison’s Andrew Kirkman soared 20-6.5 to win the long jump.
GIRLS
Steubenville’s Kaycee King won the 100 in 12.81 and teammate Nina Jesse won the 200 and 400 in 27.31 and 59.84, respectively. King ran a leg on the winning 4×100 relay team that included Akira Jackson, Sydney Reed and Laila Reed as they timed out in 51.77. Jesse, S. Reed, L. Reed and Terionah Thompson completed the 4×200 in 1:49.33.
Phoenix Fleming and Bri Hudson took care of the throws as Fleming won the shot put with a heave of 37-4.5, while Hudson won the discus with a throw of 140-10.
Martins Ferry’s Alanna Williams captured three first-place finishes in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Her times were 2:20.13; 5:36.17 and 11:48.41. She won all three races by at least 15 seconds.
The Purple Riders also claimed the 4×400 relay as Aubree Wayts, Ireland Jennette, Akaila Williams and Abigail Cika timed out in 4:24.60.
Union Local’s Pazeley Whitely was a double winner in the hurdles as she skimmed the highs in 15.78 and the lows in 49.65. The Jets’ Jamie Bolon won the high jump with a leap of 5-2.
Edison’s 4×800 relay of Annie Board, Mayelee Rawson, Lydia Krepps and Josie Lenansky ran 10:32.24 to break the tape first.
Shadyside’s Kaci Tsoras went 9-0 to win the pole vault and River’s Carleigh Trifonoff won the long jump with a leap of 15.65.
