WVU Lands Highly Recruited Linebacker For 2027 Class

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia started Friday morning, a week before the spring game, with a big-time recruitment. 3-star linebacker Broncs Baker announced his commitment to the Mountaineers on social media. Baker is a consensus 3-star, but is listed as a 4-star on some sites.

Baker also received interest from Michigan, Virginia Tech, Boise State, Washington State and Oregon State, and was originally committed to Cal last September.

The Tooele, Utah, native is listed at 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds. In his junior year, Baker had 66 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss and two sacks. Over three seasons, Baker has 152 tackles. He’s currently rated as the 76th linebacker in the class and the eighth-best player in the state.

Baker picked WVU before even taking his official visit, which is scheduled for the weekend on June 5th-7th. He took an unofficial visit in early March.

The outside linebacker is the fifth commitment for WVU in the 2027 class. He’s the second linebacker alongside recent commit Mason Cerovac. Cerovac is a bit bigger at 6-foot-2, 230. WVU is now 37th in the overall recruiting rankings for 2027, and sixth in the Big 12.

Baker is the younger brother of Easton Baker. Easton was a linebacker for Illinois, but he entered the transfer portal this winter. He paused his football career to serve a mission for the Church of the Latter-day Saints.

Starting at $2.99/week.
