WVU-Ohio State Will Play Volleyball At Wheeling Park

WHEELING – The West Virginia University volleyball team will conclude its three-game spring schedule with a match against Ohio State on Sunday, April 19, at the ‘Palace on the Hill’ inside Wheeling Park High School.

The Mountaineers dropped their opening match, 3-0, at Pitt on March 29, and will play Ohio University on Friday at Parkersburg South High School. The first serve is set for 6:30 p.m. The Bobcats have a pair of Ohio Valley products on their roster in Union Local’s Torre Kildow and Shadyside’s Gentry Brown, both juniors.

“I received a phone call from someone at West Virginia University. They told me the volleyball coach there, Jen Greeney, wanted to try and create travel games throughout the state to generate momentum, not only for volleyball, but for WVU volleyball,” Wheeling Park Athletic Director Chris Daugherty said.

“They said they would like to play in our gymnasium and were going to reach out to Ohio State as a possible opponent,” he added. “I told them we were a go. Anytime you can get West Virginia and Ohio State to play volleyball in our facility. It was a no-brainer.”

The contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. and admission is free for all attendees.

WVU finished 15-15 last fall and was 3-15 in the Big 12.

The event will offer WVU fans an opportunity to see January enrollees Nula Anderson, Macie Smith, and Lucie Šmardová compete in a Mountaineer uniform for the first time. The three newcomers join 10 returning student-athletes from the 2025 roster as the program closes its spring competition period.

Starting at $2.99/week.
