INWOOD — The Wheeling Park Patriots are moving on in the WVSSAC Class AAAA Northern Region baseball playoffs after nabbing a five-inning road victory over Musselman, 14-1 on Monday.

Kolten Whitmire tossed the full five for Park, striking out seven. He allowed two hits and a lone Applemen run. Whitmire also reached twice and scored twice Monday.

Nolan Yanchak collected two hits and a game-high three RBI for the Patriots. Ossie Hudson had two hits and two RBI. Myles Gorby and Brayden Bartsch also had two RBI. Jaxson Updegraff had two hits and scored three times.

All 10 of Wheeling Park’s hits were singles. The Patriots also drew nine walks.

Wheeling Park plays Morgantown in the second round of regionals on Tuesday.

Wheeling Central 12, Madonna 5

WEIRTON — In the regular season finale for both teams, the Maroon Knights triumphed over the Blue Dons, a seven-run second inning making the difference.

Central had 11 hits as a team against Madonna’s nine, but the Blue Dons committed eight errors Monday.

Kade Koroneos and Zach Hanson combined on the mound. Koroneos pitched the first four frames, earning the win and striking out eight. Hanson struck out four across the game’s final three innings.

Zayne Rosnick had two hits and Koroneos collected three for the Knights. All of Central’s hits were singles.

Jacob Lazear hit two doubles for Madonna, finishing with three hits and two RBI. Evan Kaczmarek also cracked two doubles.

WVSSAC Class AAA Region 1

John Marshall 7, North Marion 0

MOUNDSVILLE — Lily Dijkstra threw a shutout to lead the Monarchs past North Marion on Monday at John Marshall High School.

Dijkstra struck out nine, walked none and allowed four hits, all singles to help John Marshall advance with ease to the WVSSAC Class AAA State Tournament, which takes place June 2-4 at Little Creek Park in South Charleston.

John Marshall accumulated 10 hits in the game. Kaylee White and Emma King each collected two hits for the Monarchs. Shock, White, Tessa Dougherty, Gianna Polsinelli, and Ella Finley each drove in one run for John Marshall.
