High School Roundup: Tyler’s Miller Sets School Record With 19 Strikeouts

SISTERSVILLE — Tyler’s Brennon Miller punched out a school-record 19 batters Friday during the Knights’ 7-6 win in 11 innings of baseball action vs. Ravenswood.

Miller pitched seven innings for Tyler, allowing four hits and two runs. He walked three in addition to his 19 K’s.

Brayden Neff finished with a home run and two singles with two RBI. Sawyer Kunkle also had two hits, both singles.

The two teams were tied 6-6 after seven innings, with 3 ½ scoreless frames before Tyler walked it off in the bottom of the 11th.

East Fairmont 8, Wheeling Park 7

FAIRMONT — Despite a six-run effort in the fourth inning Friday, the Patriots dropped a road contest to the Bees in an offense-centric outing.

East Fairmont tallied 14 hits as a team while Wheeling Park tallied 13. The Bees led 6-1 going into the fourth frame, where Park plated six runs to take a 7-6 lead. East Fairmont, though, was quick to respond, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a permanent advantage.

Kolten Whitmire homered and drove in three runs to lead Wheeling Park’s offense. Myles Gorby, Bradyon Bartsch and Ossie Hudson doubled. Hudson also hit a triple and a single, finishing a homer shy of the cycle. Jaxson Updegraff notched three singles.

Washington 3, John Marshall 2

MOUNDSVILLE — The Monarchs made a comeback attempt in the sixth, scoring two runs, but couldn’t tie up Friday’s home game against the visiting Patriots.

Cain Martin and Jacob Cisar each drove in runs for John Marshall. Mason Markonich had a two-hit day for the Monarchs.

Hayden Hughes took the loss on the mound, striking out four in five innings. Each of Washington’s three runs were scored as unearned as John Marshall committed five errors.

Shadyside 8, Barnesville 5

BARNESVILLE — The visiting Tigers piled up five runs in the sixth inning to mount a come-from-behind victory over the Shamrocks on Friday.

Jacob Allen finished with three singles and two RBI for the Tigers. Dom Forgacs also had two RBI.

Trey Wright was the winning pitcher, tossing the final two frames for the Tigers and striking out a pair as he held Shadyside’s newfound lead.

For Barnesville, Brayden Watters and Gunner Dudzik each hit a double and a single. Aidan Caldwell also had a multi-hit day with two singles.

Union Local 9, Buckeye Local 4

CONNORVILLE — Though the Panthers were able to score three runs and tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, the Jets plated five unanswered in the eighth to cool off Buckeye Local’s comeback.

Evan Poziviak cracked two hits for the Jets, while Karson Grigaitis and Wyatt Ogilbee each drove in two runs.

Grayson Sink tossed a clean eighth inning to pick up the win.

SOFTBALL

River 10, Magnolia 0

HANNIBAL — Ava Wohnhas hurled a no-hitter for the Pilots in a dominant win over the Blue Eagles.

Wohnhas struck out 8 and walked none. River committed two errors.

Wohnhas also hit a single and a double. Cyla Jeffers had a mulit-hit game and three RBI. Alyvia Byers hit a single and a triple, also collecting three RBI.

Fort Frye 11, Union Local 10

MORRISTOWN — In an eight-inning slugfest, the Cadets were able to squeak out a road victory over the Jets on Friday.

Tied 7-7 after seven innings, Fort Frye came out swinging in extras with four runs in the top of the eighth. Union Local’s offense did damage as well, but fell one run short of continuing Friday’s contest.

Khloe Gallagher smacked two home runs Friday, driving in a game-high four RBI. Alli Kellaway also homered and doubled twice, collecting two RBI. Myah Martin hit two doubles and Edyn McGary hit one as the Jets outhit the Cadets 14-10 as a team. Evie Blakely had two singles.

Kylie Stidd struck out eight inside the circle for the Jets. Six of Fort Frye’s 11 runs were scored as unearned.

BASEBALL

Barnesville 10, Indian Creek 4

MINGO – Barnesville broke open a 4-1 game with six runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the Buckeye 8 championship over the Redskins.

The Shamrocks (16-4) collected 16 hits and received lights-out pitching from Dylan Blon and Parker Sobutka. Blon, the Marietta University recruit and winning pitcher in Barnesville history, went the first six frames, striking out four and walking two. Sobutka finished with a strikeout in his inning of work.

Max Miller supplied one-quarter of the offense with four singles that produced two runs. Blake Burkhart (single, triple), Jaxten Swallie (2 singles), Sobutka (2 singles) and Jack Anderson (2 singles) combined for eight hits, with Burkhart and Anderson picking up an RBI each. Brayden Watters, Blon and Keegan Martin all had run-scoring singles.
