Monarchs Fall In Hurricane Doubleheader

HURRICANE — The John Marshall Monarchs had stiff competition Saturday at Hurricane High School, facing the hosting Redskins and the Shady Spring Tigers in a doubleheader. Both Hurricane and the Tigers are ranked in the top 10 in their respective classes, Hurricane in Class AAAA, and Shady Spring in Class AAA, where John Marshall is also a top-ten team.

John Marshall lost to Shady Spring 7-4. The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning and the second inning to build a quick 6-0 lead and hung on for the win.

Cain Martin had a single and double for John Marshall, while Jacob Cisar collected two hits and two RBI. Hayden Hughes pitched the first six innings vs. Shady Spring while Jesse McDowell pitched the final frame.

The Monarchs fell to Hurricane 8-2. The two teams were tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the third, where Hurricane took a permanent advantage, scoring four runs in the inning.

Jesse McDowell and Cain Martin each had multi-hit days for John Marshall. Kayden Knapp started on the mound and pitched the first five innings, while Mason Markonich took over for the sixth.
