Local Roundup: St. Clairsville Debuts With Victory Over Zanesville
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The St. Clairsville Post 159 American Legion team started their summer season with an explosive 9-3 victory over Zanesville Post 29 on Monday, receiving a big day at the plate from DH Colby Carpenter.
Carpenter hit an RBI single and a three-run home run for Post 159, while Caiden Bailey finished with a triple and two RBI at the dish.
Dylan Blon earned the win for St. C., tossing six innings and striking out eight. He gave up four hits and walked one. Landen Stack pitched the final frame for Post 159, striking out two.
Post 159 next plays New Philadelphia on Wednesday.
St. C. Senior Earns Podium Placement
COLUMBUS – St. Clairsville senior Ava Crum finished her high school career with an eighth-place finish in the OHSAA Division III pole vault. She leaped 11-feet to tie with two others, but ended up eighth on misses.
Colerain, Maynard Split OVBL Doubleheader
Colerain and Maynard split an Ohio Valley Baseball League doubleheader on Sunday, with the Hitmen taking the opener, 6-2 behind Carson Gorby’s complete game four-hitter. Peyton Blue homered and drove in three runs.
Hunter Westlake had a home run for the Indian.
In the second game, Blue homered three times and knocked in all five runs but Maynard took advantage of 11 base-on-balls to earn a 14-5 victory.
Rhys Francis had a home run and two singles and Nate Silva had a triple for Maynard.
Colerain is home Wednesday against Barton.
