More Local Standouts Earn Spots At States In Regional Track Meet

YOUNGSTOWN — After the first batch of Ohio State Track meet hopefuls punched their tickets Wednesday in the OHSAA Div. 4 Region 12 track meet, held at Austintown-Fitch High School, Friday was the second and final day of the regional competition, with yet more local track standouts earning spots at the OHSAA Jesse Owens Track and Field State Championships, which will take place in Columbus from June 4-7.

In the day’s field events, Barnesville’s Ladyn Hines qualified in the girls pole vault, clearing 8-06. Bellaire’s Kayse Rejonis qualified in the boys shot put, launching a 52-00.25.

On the track, both Buckeye Local’s Jenna DelVecchio and Union Local’s Pazeley Whiteley qualified for the girls 100-meter hurdles. DelVecchio clocked a 14.97 to finish first in the event, with Whiteley right behind her at a 15.17.

Whiteley also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles with a 46.07.

Martins Ferry’s Alanna Williams finished first in the girls 1600-meter run to qualify for states, finishing in 5:02.74. Williams likewise took the top spot in the girls 800-meter run with a 2:13.49.

Bellaire’s Landen Perdue (4:20.01) and Union Local”s Connor Bendo (4:20.36) each qualified in the boys 1600-meter run.
