Post 1 Wins Four In Busy Weekend

Wheeling Post 1’s 2026 summer season set sail this weekend, with the American Legion summer baseball squad jumping head-first into their schedule with doubleheaders on back-to-back days, Post 1 emerging from the four games with a spotless record to show for it.

Wheeling Post 1- 6, Parkersburg Post 15- 1

ST. MARYS — Aleks Zanieski was dominant on the mound in Wheeling’s first game Saturday, striking out 10 in five innings and allowing just four hits, all singles, as Wheeling bounced back from a 1-0 deficit after the first inning to cruise to a victory.

Chris Upton tallied three RBI and Nolan Yanchak had two RBI on two hits, a double and a single. Brody Groome scored two runs for Post 1.

Andrew Murdock pitched the final two innings, striking out one batter, walking none, and allowing a pair of singles.

Wheeling Post 1- 4, Parkersburg Post 15- 3

ST. MARYS — Post 1 edged out Post 15 in a back-and-forth battle Saturday.

Braxton Billick hit an RBI single in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the fifth to finish with two RBI. Brody Groome launched a solo home run and Andrew Murdock hit an RBI single to account for the remainder of Post 1’s scoring. Tucker Doty pitched xi innings and earned the win for Wheeling. He struck out five.

Wheeling Post 1- 6, Ritchie County Post 83- 1

ELLENBORO — After four scoreless innings, Post 1 found their stroke at the plate in a road victory Sunday.

Chris Upton hit a double and a single with two RBI from the leadoff spot for Post 1. Andrew Murdock, Braxton Billick and Dominic Fato also each doubled, and Aleks Zanieski hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh for Post 1’s biggest swing of the day.

Reese Davis earned the win on the mound, striking out six in seven innings.

Wheeling Post 1- 15, Ritchie County Post 83- 9

ELLENBORO — Post 1 won-out in a high-scoring outing Sunday.

Chris Upton had the big stick for Wheeling against Ritchie County, racking up five hits- a single, three doubles, and a home run– to finish with five RBI and four runs scored.

Brody Groome doubled and hit a solo home run for a multi-hit game of his own. Andrew Murdock hit a double and a single with three RBI from the three-hole. Dominic Fato and Rhyder Dlesk also each had two-hit days.
