Ohio, West Virginia Specialists Announced For OVAC Game

By KIM NORTH 2 min read

WHEELING - Special teams are always a huge part of a football game, no matter what level is being played.

Saturday night's 80th annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All Star Football Game is no exception.

Both Ohio head coach Brett McLean of St. Clairsville and his West Virginia counterpart, Chris Daugherty of Wheeling Park, both know how important an extra-point, field goal or punt could be in the final outcome.

That's why they have selected their specialists for the 7:15 kickoff.

McLean will rely on his own Parker Galloway, while Daugherty selected his own punter, Jed Hunley, and Morgantown placekicker, Clifton Shreves.

A brief capsule of each player follows:

PARKER GALLOWAY (St. Clairsville) - This 5-10, 180-pound sure-footed placekicker/punter gave the Red Devils a weapon on special teams last season.

He was 37 of 39 on points-after-touchdowns and booted five of seven field goal attempts through the uprights, with a long of 38 yards. He also punted 22 times for a 38.95 average.

Also a standout soccer player, Galloway holds St. Clairsville boys' records for most goals in a single season and most career goals.

Galloway will continue his academic career at West Liberty University.

He is the son of Josh Galloway and Julie Stratton. He resides in St. Clairsville.

JED HUNLEY (Wheeling Park) - A defensive standout as well as a quality punter, this 5-8, 150-pounder averaged 33.75 yards on 24 punts last season for the Patriots.

Defensively, he made 138 tackles during his career, including a dozen for lost yardage. He also picked off half-a-dozen passes.

For his accomplishments last fall, he earned honorable mention all-OVAC.

He will attend West Virginia University.

His uncle, Wil Myers, played in the 1980 game.

Hunley is the son of Scott and Marcie Hunley. They reside in Wheeling.

CLIFTON SHREVES (Morgantown) - At just 5-9, 140 pounds, Shreves has a powerful leg when it comes to kicking.

As a senior, he converted 34 PATs and a pair of field goals for 40 points. His longest field goal came from 37 yards for the Mohigans, who were OVAC Class 5A champions and WVSSAC Class AAAA state champions.

Shreves will attend Ohio Technical College in Cleveland.

His brother-in-law, Alex Andersen, played in the 2014 game.

Shreves is the son of Mike and Gayle Shreves. They reside in Morgantown.
