GLADE SPRINGS — With the second round of the 93rd West Virginia Open Championship in the books, Wheeling’s contingent of golfers will all make it through another day at the Glad Springs Resort Golf Course, while a Follansbee native sits atop the standings after Thursday’s round.
Ryan Bilby, a Marshall golf alum as well as a Follansbee product, rose five spots in the standings between the first and second rounds to sit at first heading into Friday’s final round. He has scored a 137 between the two rounds, a total of seven-under Par.
Meanwhile, all six players hailing from Wheeling made the cut. The field sits at 61 heading into Friday.
Tops among the six-pack is Bryan Myers, who has carded a 146, two-over Par, to sit tied for 12th. Myers is a multiple-time West Virginia Senior Amateur Golf Tournament champion.
Campbell Koegler, a Wheeling Park alum currently playing golf at Shepherd University, is tied for 28th at a 151.
Adam Gill, a Linsly alum currently on the golf team at West Liberty, is tied for 44th with a 154.
He shares the 44th spot in the field with two other Wheeling products. Justin Doerr, a Wheeling Central Alum also currently on the West Liberty squad, has carded a like 154, as has Thadd Obecny II. Obecny II is a Wheeling Park alum and former head golf coach at West Liberty, now the men’s and women’s golf coach at Wheeling University.
Recent Wheeling Park graduate Andrew Pennybacker is tied for 54th with a 156.
The final round will be played Friday on the Stonehaven course.
