DAVIS, W.Va. -- Wheeling locals fared well on the fairways Thursday at the final day of the West Virginia Junior Amateur Championship, held at Canaan Valley Resort.
Wheeling's Andrew Pennybacker played to par across three rounds in the boys championship, going 74-70-72 on the Par-72 course to finish fifth out of 68 competitors. On the girls side, Wheeling's Ellie West finished second out of 11 golfers, carding an 80-81-80 across her three rounds. Her placement came down to a playoff.
Charles Town's Tommy Evans took first in the boys championship, and Charleston's Alexis Green did likewise for the girls.
Glen Dale's Drew Marling was tied for 30th, while Wheeling's Will Koegler was tied for 35th and Seth Weidner was 54th. Madeline Potts finished eighth in the girls championship.
