Cameron Overruns Clay-Battelle In 2026 WVSSAC Kickoff Classic, 42-0

BLACKSVILLE – The 2026 high school football season in West Virginia got underway on Thursday night in Blacksville as Clay-Battelle hosted Cameron in the 2026 WVSSAC Kickoff Classic, a rematch of the 2025 Class A state semifinals.
Unlike the last time the two teams met on the field, with the Cee-Bees earning a massive win over the Dragons, the visitors were the ones to set the tone from the beginning of the contest on their way to a 42-0 wire-to-wire shutout.
Cameron (1-0) outgained Clay-Battelle 265 to 26 offensively on the evening, led by senior duo Soier Reed and Marshall Holland, each of whom found the end zone twice on the ground.
Reed accounted for four total touchdowns, adding a passing score and a punt return for six points. He finished the game with seven carries for 27 yards and the two rushing touchdowns, throwing for 42 more yards on two completed passes.
The Dragons earned 19 first downs and converted two of their three fourth-down attempts.
Clay-Battelle (0-1) rushed for 26 yards on 29 attempts, led by Caleb Bragg with 25 yards on his five carries. Dominick Sakacsi tallied 23 yards on seven carries.
"Our guys are going to stay together," C-B head coach Aaron LaPoe said. "They just ran off the field, and I don't think I need to worry about them. We will get better and deal with this situation like winners. I preach all the time about the fundamentals in football, and tonight they (Cameron) blocked better and tackled better than we did."
Holland led Cameron with 92 yards on 16 carries on Thursday while Brown added 39 yards on four attempts. He also caught the only two passes for the Dragons in the contest for 42 yards and a touchdown.
"At first we were having some trouble getting everything communicated and seeing exactly what they were doing," Cameron head coach Tim Brown said. "But once we got the mistakes out of the way and settled in a bit, we started finding some success. I felt like our defense was very prepared tonight, and we moved around a lot and communicated. Just kudos to our guys and my assistant coaches."
Reed broke the ice in the opening quarter with a seven-yard run for six points. He added his second score late in the second quarter with a five-yard scamper for another score.
An interception of C-B senior quarterback Corey Coen allowed the Dragons to set up inside opponent territory and capitalize on the next play: a 41-yard floating pass from Reed to Brown that went for another touchdown.
Clay-Battelle took back over on offense but was forced to punt.
Reed took the ensuing kickoff 45 yards to the house, adding the third touchdown by Cameron in the final 3:53 seconds of the first half for a 28-0 halftime lead.
Quick back-to-back scores by Holland in the third quarter extended the lead to 42-0, enabling a running clock and giving us our final score.
The Cee-Bees will have Week 2 off before heading to Valley Wetzel in Week 3.
Cameron will host Valley Wetzel next week before a Bye in Week 3.
