High School Roundup: Central Earns Third-Straight Shutout To Start Season

WHEELING -- The Maroon Knights boys soccer squad made it three wins in a row, all by virtue of a shutout, to open the season thanks to a 6-0 victory against invading Weir on Wednesday evening.
Central struck early in the first half when Junior JD Schoolcraft scored less than three minutes into the game.
Schoolcraft wasn't done. He scored twice more in the first half and, for good measure, added his fourth tally to cap the scoring in the second half.
Maddox Ochap also posted a pair of goals and had three assists. Cooper Crews also recorded an assist.
The Maroon Knights return to action Saturday at 11 am against Grafton.
VOLLEYBALL
Martins Ferry def. Wheeling Central 19-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-17
MARTINS FERRY -- The Purple Riders rallied from a first-set setback to top the Maroon Knights in four.
For the victorious Riders, Alivia Harkness set her teammates up to the tune of 47 assists. Giana Chirpas led the team with 23 kills and put down three blocks. Nicole Hammerquist also tallied 12 kills.
SJ Koller finished with 30 digs on the defensive for Ferry. Maddie Lucas had 21 digs and four kills.
GOLF
Dover Fends Off Bruins, Huskies
CADIZ - Dover claimed a triangular high school boys' golf match Wednesday at the par-36 Cadiz Country Club with a 160, which was 21 shots better than Brooke. Harrison Central was third at 182.
The Tornadoes' Gavin Vanhorn was the only player to shoot under 40, with his 39 earning medalist honors.
The Bruins were led by Colton Yensen with 42, while the Huskies' Cash Meadows carded a 44.

BOYS SOCCER
Wheeling Park 9, University 0
WHEELING - Graham Loy netted three goals - including one on a penalty kick - as seven different Patriots found the net and five had assists in their rout of the visiting Hawks at Wheeling Island Stadium.
Chase Smith, Miles Rockey, Brayden Hedges, Tristin Gonzalez, Aiden McCroskey and Hayden Gonzalez all tallied goals, with McCroskey also adding an assist.
Isaac Welling finished with two helpers, while Donovan Ramos and Noah Lloyd each had one.
Jacob Robinson was only called upon to make one save in earning the shutout.

MOUNDSVILLE - The Golden Bears received five goals from Bailey Watts, who also added an assist, while Kendall Krzys added a pair of goals and two assists. Camryn Richards made six saves on seven shots.
