High School Roundup: Cooper And Cisar Power Monarchs; Toliver Stays Red Hot For Shamrocks

MARIETTA - Dalton Cooper scored touchdowns in three different ways and Jacob Cisar passed for three more scores Friday night as John Marshall made a successful debut with a 37-28 victory over Marietta at Don Drumm Stadium on the campus of Marietta College.
Cooper had a rushing touchdown, caught a TD pass and ran a kickoff back 80 yards. He finished with 12 carries for 27 yards and caught three passes for 117.
Cisar, the son of head coach Mark Cisar, completed 14 of 17 passes for 264 yards. In addition to hooking up with Cooper, Cisar also found Landen Snider and Tiler Clemons. Snider hauled in nine catches for 111 yards, while Clemons had two for 36.
John Marshall opens at home next Friday when Weir visits Monarch Stadium in Moundsville.
Barnesville 47, Meadowbrook 14
BYESVILLE - Trey Toliver continued his red-hot start as the senior carried the ball 21 times for 191 yards and scored four touchdowns as the Shamrocks (2-0) routed the host Colts on Eugene Capers Field.
Evan Wells, Evan Carpenter and Bane Stephen also had touchdown runs, while Toliver, Stephen and Phoenix Graham all had interceptions.
Barnesville debuts at home next Friday as Bellaire visits Shamrock Stadium.
Martins Ferry 60, Cols. Mifflin 6
MARTINS FERRY - The Purple Riders (2-0) scored early and often in routing the punchless Punchers (0-2) at the Dave Bruney Football Complex inside Purple Rider Stadium.
Walkquem Cox scored touchdowns on runs of 45 and 25 yards; Colby Kropka teamed with Elijah Roby on a 65-yard TD strike and then hit Jakori Cox from 25. Jayvon Johnson had two touchdown runs; Christian Shutler had a pick-6; Jacob Ball ran 35 yards for a score and Cole Patterson had a TD run.
Martins Ferry hosts Brashear next Friday.
Valley 20, Tygarts Valley 8
PINE GROVE - Koleton Kincade lugged the leather 33 times for 178 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Lumberjacks defeated the visiting Bulldogs on Thomas C. West Memorial Field.
Gaige Wichterman also found Ryder Gravette on a 35-yard scoring pass. Gravette also eclipsed the 100-yard barrier on the ground with 103.
East Liverpool 48, Indian Creek 14
WINTERSVILLE - The visiting Potters (2-0) jumped on the Redskins (1-1) early, regained the momentum at halftime and pulled away in the second half via mercy rule inside Kettlewell Memorial Stadium.
The Blue-and-White built a 20-point advantage less than 10 minutes into the first quarter.
The Potters led 20-0 at the end of the first, and the boys in white extended their advantage to 28-7 in the second. The Red-and-Gold rallied and closed to within 14 points, and the hosts had a golden opportunity to draw even closer late in the first half, however, East Liverpool came up with a big sack in the red zone on the final play of the first half enabling them to take a 28-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.
East Liverpool quarterback Ben Myers ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, and the senior threw for 107 yards and two more touchdowns.
Bruce Mazar led the way offensively for the Redskins. He ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, while also catching one pass for 31 yards.
Brooke 46, Lincoln County 6
HAMLIN -- The Brooke football team started its season with a big victory, making the four-hour trip to Lincoln County a successful one with a 46-6 win.
Kamden Sperringer had a huge night for the Bruins, throwing five touchdown passes. His TD tosses went to Micheal Gibson (35 yards), Bryden Horstin (55 yards and 60 yards), Rylan Figgs (12 yards) and Jack Garvey (26 yards).
Cole Bolen ran for a 1-yard score for the Bruins, who led 46-0 at halftime, and Kaleb Neilsen returned an interception 45 yards for a score.
Harrison Central 47, East Palestine 14
CADIZ -- The Harrison Central football team bounced back in a big way Friday, pulling away from visiting East Palestine for a 47-14 victory in their home opener at Wagner Field.
The Huskies (1-1) racked up 410 yards of offense, 327 of which came on the ground.
Olin Wade tallied 167 yards and two scores on 16 carries while also having two interceptions on defense. Kingston Smith had 71 yards and two scores on eight carries. Lance Smith had a rushing score and an interception. Colson Crothers tallied four catches for 78 yards and two scores and Hunter Snyder had a fumble recovery.
River 40, Buckeye Local 6
YORKVILLE -- The Buckeye Local football team dropped a 40-6 loss to visiting River on Ring of Honor night at World War II Memorial Stadium on Friday.
Jonas Eddy led the Panthers run game with 33 yards on six carries, while Blake Worwa threw for 73 yards and a score for the Panthers. Kaden Littlejohn caught the TD pass and had 124 yards.
The Panthers honored Nathan Schaal, a 2009 Buckeye Local graduate; and the late Dick Thurne, coach for the former Buckeye South High School, prior to the game.
The Panthers travel to Shadyside next Friday.
