By Staff Reports 1 min read

AKRON - St. Clairsville finished third in the 12-team Ohio High School Athletic Association's Division II Boys Golf State Tournament on Monday.

The Red Devils shot a two-day, four-player score of 624 on the Firestone Country Club North Course, which was two dozen shots behind champion River View who St. Clairsville defeated for its District Championship last week. Kettering Archbishop Alter was second at 605.

St. Clairsville senior Mavrik Malin concluded his stellar career with a 75 on Monday after shooting a 76 the day before. He finished in a tie for seventh overall at 151.

First day leader Beau Mooney surged to a 43 on the front nine Monday to finish at 82, giving the junior a final score of 154, which was good for 16th.

Junior Ryan Mooney shot 77 (38-39) on Monday to go with his 79 from Sunday to end up in 20th place. Classmate Mason Conway shot 167 over the two days to finish 38th. Freshman Jackson Conway was 57th with a 175.

"I'm super proud of this group," St. Clairsville head coach Heidi Mooney said. "The stars just didn't align for us today."

Malik's two-day effort was good enough for second-team all-Ohio.
