WHEELING -- Although students will not return to classrooms in Ohio County Schools until Aug. 26, district officials are already preparing for the start of the new school year.
Principals, secretaries and administrative staff members are available at school buildings to answer questions, address concerns and assist families enrolling new students.
Families are encouraged to contact their child's school before visiting to begin the enrollment process. Required documents include birth certificates, medical records, proof of residency, such as a utility bill, and any custody or legal agreements.
Parents or guardians also will need to complete enrollment paperwork. Students entering seventh and 12th grades must provide proof of required vaccinations, including the Tdap booster and meningitis vaccine.
Back-to-school events are scheduled at each school:
-- Bethlehem Elementary will welcome students and families from 3-5 p.m. Aug. 24. The school day runs from 9:05 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
-- Elm Grove Elementary will host a meet-and-greet from 3-5 p.m. Aug. 25. School hours are 9 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.
-- Madison Elementary will hold a back-to-school event from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 21. School hours are 8:10 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
-- Middle Creek Elementary will host a meet-and-greet from 3-4:30 p.m. Aug. 24. School hours are 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
-- Ritchie Elementary's annual street fair is set for 1-3 p.m. Aug. 25. School hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.
-- Steenrod Elementary will welcome students and families from 4:30-6 p.m. Aug. 24. School hours are 8:20 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-- Warwood Elementary will welcome students from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 24. School hours are 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
-- West Liberty Elementary will host a meet-and-greet from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 25. School hours are 8:20 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-- Woodsdale Elementary will hold its back-to-school event from 3-5 p.m. Aug. 24. School hours are 9:05 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
-- Bridge Street Middle will welcome students and parents from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 25. School hours are 8:38 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.
-- Triadelphia Middle will host an open house from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 25. School hours are 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
-- Warwood Middle will welcome students from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 24. School hours are 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
-- Wheeling Middle will host a meet-and-greet from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 25. School hours are 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
-- Wheeling Park High School will host "Party on the Plaza" for freshmen and new students from 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 24. School hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
