An Unhappy Holiday

What if the government’s true goal is to perpetuate its own power? What if the real levers of governmental power are pulled by agents and diplomats and by bureaucrats? What if they stay in power no matter who is elected president? What if the frequent public displays of adversity between Republicans and Democrats are just a facade? What if both major political parties agree on the fundamental issues of our day? What if the leadership of both political parties believes that our rights are not natural to our humanity but instead are gifts from the government? What if the ...

Why is Israel Fighting a PR Battle?

By RUBEN NAVARRETTE The world needs to get real and accept that war is incompatible with public relations. We’re told that Israel is losing the critically important communications battle in what many of its citizens see as a necessary war for their nation’s survival. Hamas’s heinous Oct. 7 attack on Israel left 1,200 people dead and hundreds more injured. More than 200 people were taken hostage. Israel should be given a wide berth as it tries to bring to justice those who planned and carried out these atrocities. Instead, it’s had to endure the opposite — the strictest of ...

A Failure To Protect Speech

By JOSH HAMMERS I arrived at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on Thursday, Nov. 16 to deliver a speech on Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza. The talk’s blunt title, selected by the local Young Americans for Freedom chapter, reflected my own unambiguous approach to the conflict: “Israel’s Righteous Fight Against Jihadism.” I anticipated possible fireworks and worked with YAF on event security measures. Those security measures, unfortunately, turned out to be necessary. Within minutes of starting my speech, 20 to 25 protestors stood up in unison. They held their arms ...

Bird Flu Still Taking Toll On Industry As 1.35M Chickens Are Being Killed On An Ohio Egg Farm

By JOSH FUNK Associated Press More than 1.3 million chickens are being slaughtered on an Ohio egg farm as the bird flu continues to take a toll on the industry. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said all 1.35 million chickens on the farm in Ohio’s Union County will be slaughtered to help limit the spread of the highly contagious virus after a case was confirmed in the flock this week. The outbreak that began in early 2022 has been much less severe this year as fewer cases of the virus are being found among the wild birds that spread it. But there have still been 8.1 million ...

LIVINGSTON, Ky. (AP) — A chemical fire at a Kentucky train derailment that caused evacuations has been extinguished and people can return to their homes, rail operator CSX said Thursday.
