The Marshall County Family Resource Network and the Let’s Exercise Great Opportunities Youth Leadership Group recently sponsored a healthy classroom essentials and school supply drive to benefit local students.
Healthy classroom products such as tissues and hand sanitizers were collected, as well as crayons, paper, pens, pencils and other traditional supplies. Monetary donations were also accepted.
The drive was kicked off with a tag day and school supply drive at Moundsville Wal-Mart with more than 50 items and more than $600 donated during the event.
After launching the project, the FRN staff met with Marshall County Schools personnel and learned that head lice outbreaks can be particularly challenging for students, teachers and families. Therefore, proceeds from the healthy classroom essentials drive were used to purchase lice treatment kits for the district.
The healthy classroom essentials and school supply drive is affiliated with the FRN’s Carolyn Dalzell Closet of Hope, an initiative that utilizes partnerships to create product support for local organizations and groups by aligning resources to better meet the needs of the community. The initiative was named for longtime FRN board member Carolyn Dalzell, who lost her battle with cancer in January. The closet speaks to her spirit of giving and continues her legacy of helping others in need.
