To help children placed in foster care adapt a little easier, local organizations are working together to provide the children with a backpack full of comfort items.
The Marshall County Family Resource Network recently delivered backpacks filled with hundreds of health and hygiene items, pajamas and comfort items such as stuffed animals to the Wetzel County DHHR. The items will be distributed to children in Marshall, Wetzel and Tyler counties being placed in foster care.
The donation is a project of the FRN’s Carolyn Dalzell Closet of Hope, an initiative that utilizes partnerships to make necessities available to individuals and organizations that need product support. It is named for long-time FRN board member Carolyn Dalzell who lost her battle with cancer in January 2014.
“The closet speaks to her spirit of giving and continues her legacy of helping others in need,” said Marshall County Family Resource Network Executive Director Stacie Dei.
The FRN developed this idea after hearing from community partners who directly serve children and families.
“It’s our hope that this donation might help make the transition to foster care a little easier for children,” Dei said. “Often times, as children are placed in foster care they may or may not have all of the items they need. The FRN is pleased to be involved in this project and grateful to the community for its support of all of the Carolyn Dalzell Closet of Hope projects.”
The Marshall County FRN is a non-profit organization that is helping to make Marshall County a better place to live and work.
