Two Marshall County nonprofits are improving their daily functions with help from the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley.
The CFOV announced its Community Impact grant recipients for 2015 this spring, including the Marshall County Family Resource Network and The Blue and Gold Christian Center of Cameron.
The Foundation awarded a total of $66,549 through the Community Impact Grants Program to organizations within the foundation’s eight-county region, which includes Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Tyler and Wetzel counties in West Virginia and Jefferson and Belmont counties in Ohio.
According to board members Steve and Susie Davis, the Blue and Gold Christian Center works to provide after-school care for children ages pre-K to sixth grade. The center received $3,652 from the fund for the purchase of two gas ranges to continue preparing meals for the 40 children they serve daily.
Susie Davis said the center plans to apply for future grants for a $5,000 roof renovation.
“We reach out to children to let them know they’re cared about and the importance of who they are,” she said. “The center is my heart and the heart of the community in Cameron.”
The Marshall County Family Resource Network also received $2,500 toward the Carolyn Dalzell Closet of Hope, a storage area filled with hygiene items at the network building. Network staff work with local charities and nonprofits to help those in need throughout the area.
Latrisha Whitelatch, strategic planning director for FRN, said the funds will be used to promote the closet with the creation of fliers and community connections.
