Food Drive Set At Boscov’s

2 min read

ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Boscov's at the Ohio Valley Mall is hosting a "Christmas in July" program throughout the month of July to help raise food and clothing for local families in need. Both, The House of Carpenter and Children's Society of West Virginia, will be partnering with Boscov's in this campaign to help their neighbors and local community.

"The House of the Carpenter feeds at least 500 families a month," said Michelle Lucarelli, associate director of The House of Carpenter.  "The last couple months, we have noticed an increase.  Families who have not come to the pantry since 2010 and 2011 have returned due to job layoffs.  Every can of food, every box of cereal matters to a family in the Ohio Valley.  We serve families from Ohio, Marshall, and Brooke counties in West Virginia and Belmont and Jefferson counties in Ohio," added Lucarelli.

"The Boscov's Christmas in July program allows us to be able to provide a Christmas experience to children who otherwise may not have had a Christmas," Stephanie Strope, Permanency Social Worker for the Children's Society of West Virginia, said.

Collection boxes for the food drive will be displayed at the main entrance as well as the courtesy desk on the second floor. All non- perishable items will be accepted.

An Angel Tree will also be displayed at the main entrance. Customers are encouraged to choose a tag off the tree, purchase an item in the child's size and bring the gift, receipt and angel tag to the courtesy desk for free gift wrapping.  Boscov's "Christmas in July" runs now through July 31 at the Ohio Valley Mall.
