Three local fire departments will receive $25,000 each from the Marshall County Commission toward the purchase of new trucks.
Commissioners unanimously approved a total of $75,000 in contributions for the Limestone, Washington Lands and Boggs Run volunteer fire departments during their regular meeting Tuesday.
According to county Administrator Betsy Frohnapfel, the commission puts aside $25,000 each year for any department purchasing a new truck.
On average, the trucks in question range from $250,000 to $400,000 in price.
"Usually we have at least one (department) in need of a new truck," Frohnapfel said. "It's a very expensive endeavor to buy a new fire truck."
The Rev. Jim Higginson of the Marshall County National Day of Prayer Task Force appeared before the commission with a proclamation for National Day of Prayer.
The observance will be held May 4 in conjunction with the 66th-annual National Day of Prayer, to be celebrated in the county.
"This calls every citizen to gather in their homes, our churches, places of business and in public areas, each after his or her own manner to pray for unity of the hearts of all mankind."
Commissioners unanimously adopted the proclamation and approved prayer activities to be held at the courthouse during the event.
