Good Morning! Guess what? Today you have the opportunity to make a difference!
Yes, I'm really talking to you! You have the power to impact lives in a big way, but you must not neglect the seemingly small stuff. Every day can't be a trip to the beach or Kennywood, but it can be just as memorable.
It is easy to become complacent and to feel that what you have to give is insignificant. We forget that the angry words or the blessings we mutter while getting our children off to school set the mood for the day.
The special hugs we give our loved ones have great power, too. Small acts of kindness and respect go a long way. We can all remember those in our lives who have reached out and made us feel significant or others who have trampled us like a bug.
Over the last several weeks I have been meditating on the words-"ALL and SMALL." It is intriguing that the word "all is part of "small." As I reflected on the word "small," several Bible references came to mind. Zechariah 4:10 "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin."
In 1 Samuel 17:1-25, we see that God used David a young male and a stone to defeat Goliath. We read that he used a young boy's lunch to feed 5,000 men plus the women and children.
God seems to delight in using small things. It is no wonder the enemy tries to minimize the power of seemingly small actions!
As I reflect on my last 20 years of counseling ministry, I can easily say that most of my clients were there as a result of neglect of the little things. Many married folks forgot that it was the little things that kept a marriage alive. Others were there because somehow while growing up the little things were forgotten.
Still others ignored the little signs of stress, a looming addiction, or little red flags of an abusive relationship.
I challenge you to realize you have the power to make a difference daily. Stay alert and do not fall prey to the enemy's lie that your gift is too small or you are too young or old.
I work with people daily who are thrilled to get your worn tennis shoes and old cellphones. Just a week ago I saw a very young elementary school child have a lemonade stand to save his family from being evicted from an apartment. He may have only earned $38 but his actions and selfless attitude were seen by those in the community and larger donations prevented the family from becoming homeless. God still uses children to accomplish his purposes.
Every day may not include a walk on the beach or a trip to Kennywood, but it can certainly include an opportunity to bless someone's journey- even in a small way!
