WHEELING --Deputies with the Ohio County Sheriff's Department rescued a city of Wheeling employee this morning after the worker drove his sport utility vehicle off the road into a creek and flipped over.
The sanitation employee, who Public Works Director Russell Jebbia said has worked with the city for more than 40 years, was traveling down Chapel Hill Road in Triadelphia when the accident occurred. Jebbia believes the early morning contributed to the incident.
"It was due to the fog," Jebbia said.
The employee was trapped inside his SUV at the bottom of Chapel Hill Road, at which point sheriff's officials, as well as Bethlehem and Triadelphia first responders, retrieved him.
Officials transported the worker to a local hospital where he was inspected for any possible injuries. He was later discharged and told to rest at home.
"He is going to take the rest of the day off," Jebbia added.
