Vineyard Church Buys Former Kaufman’s Building in Downtown Wheeling
The former Kaufman’s Building in downtown Wheeling officially has a new owner.
The Vineyard Church has purchased the structure at 1032 Main St. for $115,000, according to Realtor Lee Paull IV of Paull and Associates. The sale closed June 15.
It is not yet clear what the church plans to do with the property.
When contacted, an employee at the church said the matter “is being discussed,” and referred all comments to Lead Pastor Chris Figaretti. Figaretti was out of town on Monday.
Paull said the church often holds children’s programs at the Capitol Theatre, and there is potential for renting out upstairs areas configured for residential use.
The structure actually consists of 7,750 square feet, including a separate space that once housed Campeti General Shoe Hospital.
The Kaufman’s Building was constructed in 1900, and was home to the former Kaufman’s formal wear shop. Previously owned by the Kaufman family, the building has sat vacant since the store closed in 2010.
Paull said while the $115,000 purchase price might seem low, it isn’t given the structural state of the building.
“It needs more work than you can imagine,” he said.
