Reynolds Hospital To Deliver Babies

2 min read

For the first time in years, babies could be born in a hospital in Marshall County starting next week.

WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital has announced that it will re-open its labor and delivery unit with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The hospital had said previously it was planning to reopen the birthing facility that was closed years before it joined with WVU Medicine. Dr. Nicole Carlson, a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, was added to the staff earlier this month as part of the initiative.

The event is open to the public and will include an open house of the newly renovated unit. Light refreshments will be served.

The obstetrics and gynecology department is on the third floor of the hospital.

"We've seen a tremendous response from the community," said Dr. David Hess, president and CEO of Reynolds. "There's a lot of excitement to see Reynolds delivering babies again. The addition of Dr. Carlson will allow women and families to receive the highest quality of care without traveling far from home."

Carlson previously worked for Magee Women's Specialty Services at UPMC Horizon in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She completed a residency at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, after graduating from Penn State College of Medicine.

"The most important thing to me is building a strong relationship with my patients," Carlson said. "I'm looking forward to getting to know the people of the Ohio Valley and growing the obstetrics and gynecology services at Reynolds."
