Wheeling Park's Young Patriots have been named as the finest high school choir in the state of West Virginia.

The West Virginia Music Educators Association recently informed Wheeling Park music teacher Joyce Jingle that the Young Patriots have been named as the 2019 West Virginia Honor Choir. For being chosen as the state's top choir, the Young Patriots will perform at the at the WVMEA Annual Conference March 7-9 in Charleston.

Jingle said her students were excited to learn of their selection. She said this year's conference will be a special one because the Young Patriots will have an opportunity to showcase selections that they have performed throughout the year, in addition to songs that will be part of their upcoming Choral Festival in Hawaii.

Jingle said she wasn't necessarily surprised that the Young Patriots were selected as this year's honor choir.

"I had a good feeling about it," she said. "This is a special group. If there was ever going to be a year to be chosen, this was the year. It's also special because we have a lot students performing at the conference in the all state band, orchestra and choir ensembles."
