The 47-year-old Chapel Road Bridge -- which stretches approximately 100 feet above Interstate 470 in Bethlehem -- was closed to traffic Monday as crews are expected to begin replacing the deck on aging structure this week. Some nighttime lane closures on I-470 are expected in the coming weeks as the first of two bridge deck replacement projects begins. The Chapel Road Bridge project is expected to continue through the end of August and will precede the deck replacement of the nearby Spruce Street Bridge. The detour route throughout the Chapel Road Bridge project will be West Bethlehem Boulevard and the Spruce Street Bridge.
