Project BEST to Host Construction Job & Career Fair at Wheeling Park Ice Rink

Project BEST will be hosting the Fifth annual Construction Job & Career Fair at the Wheeling Park Ice Rink on Thursday.

The career fair, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will provide opportunities for students and their parents to gain a better understanding of the construction trades careers available and the path to pursue one.

With thousands of skilled workers in the construction trades set to retire this decade, more and more opportunities are arising for today's youth to frame the future of this industry. The construction trades offers students the opportunity to develop the hands-on skills and understanding necessary to continue on to high paying careers. Construction and its related trades are projected to be the fastest growing industry through 2024 for employment opportunities.

Union construction apprenticeship programs allow men and women, the ability to develop and hone skills needed to become a highly trained and highly skilled journeymen, while learning how to safely and efficiently perform their duties.

Apprenticeships are an excellent alternative to college, providing men and women with a direct path to a middle-class lifestyle by letting them earn while they learn.

Themed, "Earn while you learn with no college debt," the career fair will provide students with hands-on experience as they participate in interactive activities at booths manned by representatives of the various trades, including bricklayers, carpenters, cement masons, electricians, ironworkers, plumbers, pipefitters, laborers, sheet metal workers, painters, teamsters, operating engineers, and plasterers when they visit with their schools during the day.

The career fair is open to the public, students and their parents so that attendees will be able to visit different stations to talk with representatives about each of the trades.

Parents will obtain additional information about how their children can start preparing for a future in the construction trades with suggested curriculum choices and relevant skills needed.

Project BEST is a construction industry labor-management organization encompassing more than 500 contractors and 6,000 building trades craftsman and apprentices serving the Upper Ohio Valley region.
