U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Patrick M. Flatley Honored by West Virginia Bar Foundation

WHEELING -- U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Patrick M. Flatley of Wheeling has been named as a West Virginia Bar Foundation Fellow. He was honored at the recent Bar Foundation Fellows Dinner in Charleston.

For 21 years, the Bar Foundation, which is the philanthropic organization for the legal profession, has selected "those lawyers whose professional, public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and honorable service to the legal profession with the individuals selected reflecting the diverse nature of the legal profession in West Virginia."

This year's class of 17 lawyers and judges joins just more than 400 individuals, who have been previously selected as Bar Foundation Fellows. There are more than 6,000 judges and lawyers in West Virginia.

Flatley received an undergraduate degree from Bethany College and his J.D. from West Virginia University. Flatley's career has included private law practice in Wheeling. He was also an officer in the United States Marine Corps where he was a judge advocate at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Later, Flatley was an assistant U.S. attorney, where he was chief of the civil division. He also served as interim U.S. attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia from April 2001 through October 2001. At the time of his appointment, he worked for the U.S. Department of Justice as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia.
